New Terrain

A film about trust, risk, and closeness

What happens when work, dreams, and relationships are lived in exposed terrain?

New Terrain explores the delicate balance between ambition and safety – and what it’s like to navigate challenging wilderness alongside the person you’re closest to.

Field Productions followed Thea Røhme and Krister Kopala through a full winter season in the Norwegian mountains – a journey that became a captivating film.

Krister Kopala, a world-class snowboarder, and Thea Røhme, a dedicated mountain guide in training, share not only their lives but also their passion for nature, snow, and steep mountain slopes. Together, they have settled in western Norway, where the dream of living close to the mountains becomes a daily reality.

The film delves into how two people balance ambition, safety, and love in an environment where the forces of nature always have the final say.

How do you find the balance between trust and risk – and what is it really like to move through exposed terrain with the person you are closest to?

Bring your friends along – this is an experience you won’t want to miss!

After the screening, you’ll have the chance to meet Thea and Krister, hear their reflections, and get closer understanding of the story behind the film.

This is an evening for everyone who loves the mountains – and the stories that are shaped there.

Krister Kopala

is a truly unique snowboard athlete from northern Norway, with a strong focus on exploring big mountains, climbing steep lines, and riding them all the way down.

He grew up in Tromsø, where winter lasts up to nine months. Krister started snowboarding at the age of five and spent nearly every afternoon and weekend in the local lift system.

His ever-growing passion for alpine terrain and untracked lines has taken him to some of the wildest places – and has also led to appearances in numerous film projects.

When he’s not on his board, Krister can still be found outdoors – running, climbing, cycling, strength training, or doing other activities that recharge both body and mind.

Thea Røhme Kopala

is an exceptionally versatile and passionate mountain guide from Norway. In her free time, she explores steep ski lines in the Lyngen Alps or climbs perfect granite in Lofoten, Tromsø, and her home mountains in Jotunheimen.

She grew up in a small valley surrounded by high peaks, with a father who worked as an IFMGA-certified mountain guide. From a young age, she was given an early taste of mountaineering and alpine adventure. For Thea, trad climbing, ski touring, ridge scrambling, ice climbing, glacier travel, and running in the mountains are not just activities – they are a way of life.

Today, Thea is a certified guide through the Norwegian NF system (Norsk Fjellsportforum), but her ultimate goal is to follow in her father’s footsteps and become an IFMGA-certified mountain guide.

What she loves most about taking people into the mountains is seeing the expression on their faces when they achieve something they never thought was possible.
